Dr Richard Freer OBE

Dr Richard Freer is manager of Bechtel Nuclear, Security & Environmental International and UK Marketing and Business Development Lead for Infrastructure. He oversees a portfolio of commercial nuclear power projects throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Richard brings 25 years of experience of work for the UK Government in a wide range of policy, operational and technical roles. Since joining Bechtel in 2013 he has undertaken project management roles in the US, UK and most recently in Australia, focused on the nuclear and defence sectors.
Richard joined Bechtel in March 2013 focussing on project work, initially managing technical programmes on the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant and subsequently as Shared Services manager on the Pile Fuel Cladding Silo project at Sellafield UK. His most recent position was leadership of the Bechtel team within the Australian Department of Defence supporting implementation of the First Principles Review. He brings to NS&E International a wealth of project experience in both the nuclear and defence sectors.
Prior to joining Bechtel in 2013, Richard had a 25-year career in the UK Civil Service which included the role of defence private secretary in 10 Downing Street. He has a PhD in Physical Chemistry from Oxford University.
